Things To Do With Your Dog This Summer

June 15, 2023

The official start of summer is just about a week off. Of course, that date isn’t as big a deal for us Floridians as it is elsewhere. It’s always summer here in the Sunshine State! That said, we are heading into the hottest part of the year. Keeping your canine pal cool and comfy is a priority in those sweltering summer months. However, you can also get that tail going. Here, an Edison Park, FL vet lists some things to do with Fido this summer.

Enjoy A Cold Snack

Ice cream may very well be America’s favorite summer snack. Your canine buddy will also appreciate a cold treat. Several companies now make ice cream for Man’s Best Friend. You’ll also find some great recipes for easy homemade versions online. Just don’t go overboard. Also, be careful not to offer your furry friend anything unsafe, such as chocolate, nuts, or raisins. Ask your vet for more information.

Splash Around

It’s hard to beat going for a swim to cool off on a hot day. If you don’t have a pool, consider getting Fido a doggy pool. You can also get him a kiddie pool, or a fountain that splashes water into the air when he steps on a pad. Your pup may also enjoy just playing in the spray from a sprinkler!

Adventures

Florida is a great spot for one-tank trips. There are plenty of places that welcome Fido! Try out a beach, spring, or park you haven’t been to yet. Dogs are great for reminding us to stop and smell the roses. (Fido will also smell everything around the roses, but that’s another topic.)

Enjoy A Sunset

Many of the more casual, beachy-vibe spots allow canine ‘diners’ on deck or patio areas. Enjoy a snack and one of Florida’s beautiful sunsets with your furry bff.

Enjoy The Rain

It can’t be sunny all the time. Florida thunderstorms can be fierce, but they really help cool things down. It’s probably safe to say that at some point this summer, you’ll find yourself relaxing at home as a shower rolls in. Enjoy some quiet time with Fido! If your pup is afraid of storms, ask your vet for tips on helping him cope.
